Breitling has added a range of models to its Aviator 8 collection inspired by some of the world’s most historic aircraft, including the de Havilland Mosquito and Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, to its already wide fleet of aviation-centric watches. This year, these activities will coincide with the debut of Breitling’s Super AVI, a brand-new watch line. Five clocks with “Co-Pilot” designs, honoring four historic planes, kick things beginning.<\/p>\n

These timepieces’ inspiration will be easily recognized by aviation enthusiasts. The Super AVI P-151 Mustang is the only model available in both steel and 18k rose gold, while the other three, the Super AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair, the Super AVI Curtiss Warhawk, and the Super AVI Mosquito, are all in stainless steel.<\/p>\n

The Super AVI family of watches share a number of design characteristics borrowed from the 1953 model. The dials and bezels feature large, legible Arabic numerals and a tri compax design for the small seconds and chronograph subdials. The cases measure 46 mm in diameter and have oversized screwed crowns and knurled bidirectionally rotating bezels.<\/p>\n

This collection is powered by Breitling\u2019s in-house automatic Caliber B04 that comes with a stopwatch and second time zone display function with its red-tipped GMT hands and a rotating 24-hour inner bezel. The in-house movement has a COSC chronometer accreditation for accuracy and a power reserve of 70 hours.<\/p>\n

Both models of the Super AVI P-151 Mustang are inspired by North American Aviation’s powerful aircraft, widely considered as the finest all-around fighter jet of all time, which first flew in 1940. The steel version has a black dial and a golden brown leather band, while the rose-gold version has an anthracite dial with a black leather strap.<\/p>\n

The Super AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair has a blue dial with tone-on-tone subdials and a black leather strap in the colors of the World War II naval aircraft with the legendary “bent wing” design that became recognized as the first single-engine fighter to surpass the 400 mph speed barrier.<\/p>\n

The dial of the Super AVI Curtiss Warhawk watch, which incorporates contrasting white subdials and red detailing, is inspired by the iconic military-green color scheme and renowned shark-mouth nose art of the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. It comes with a brown leather aviator strap to stay true to its original design.<\/p>\n

The de Havilland Mosquito was nicknamed as the “Wooden Wonder” because it was built entirely of wood during a period when aluminum and steel were scarce. The Super AVI Mosquito, with its brown pilot-style leather strap and polished and satin-brushed black ceramic bezel, pays homage to the plane’s unique livery with a black dial with high-contrast white counters and red and orange components.<\/p>\n
